Volcano and UK visa delay Chris Martin’s debut
A series of extenuating circumstances has left Essex without new overseas signing Chris Martin for the Championship match against Lancashire at Chelmsford today.
The New Zealand pace bowler's travel plans were disrupted by a delay in the processing of his UK visa, a delay that was further compounded by the grounding of flights within the UK and EU.
Martin was signed last week as temporary cover for Danish Kaneria and was expected to be available until 7 May. It is hoped that Martin will be available for Essex's Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Yorkshire on Sunday.
If all goes to plan Martin will play in two further one-day matches and two Championship matches before Kaneria returns from playing in his home country Pakistan.
