Biometric permits now required for UK Visa Tiers 1 and 5

The UK Border Agency has announced that from 14 December 2010, people applying for further leave to remain in the UK under Tier 1 or Tier 5 (Temporary Worker) categories will be required to provide their biometrics as part of their application.

UK Visa

Applications for renewals of certain UK Visas will now require biometrics.

UK Visa applications for these categories will have to provide fingerprints and a photograph.

If the Tier 1 or Tier 5 (Temporary Worker) application is successful you will be issued with a biometric residence permit, which is evidence of your permission to stay in the UK and shows the conditions of your stay.

Applications to extend your stay can be made my post, after which an invitation will be issued to enrol your biometric information at one of 17 crown post offices using their walk-in service or at one of 11 Home Office biometric enrolment centres by appointment only.

Application can also be made in person at one of the UK Border Agency’s public enquiry offices or using the super premium service. You will enrol your biometric information at the same time as making your application.
