UK visa proving popular for UAE nationals
The number of UK visa applications for United Arab Emirates students has seen a 10 per cent increase, reports the Khakeej Times.
While UK visa applications from most Middle Eastern countries have reduced as a result of the global economic slowdown, the UAE is showing strong results, says British Ambassador to the UAE Edward Oakden.
"We have witnessed a slowdown of students from the other countries in the Middle East due to the recession but we have registered a 10 per cent increase in visa applications from the UAE. Now we are receiving around 300 visa application every day," Oakden said.
Last year, 72, 745 UK visa applications were processed in the UAE, with around one third of these being an Emirati UK visa application. Of the Emirate UK visa applications, over 99.6 per cent were approved.
According to the Embassy, the majority of UAE UK visa applicants are granted long-term premium visas that are valid for a decade.
"The British government warmly welcomes UAE and other properly qualified travellers to the UK, and is committed to ensuring that the process of securing a UK visa should be simple, swift, straightforward, family-friendly and culturally sensitive," Oakden added.
