Twelve workers caught without a UK Visa in Leicester
UK Border Agency officers have caught twelve foreign nationals working illegally after a raid on two businesses in Leicester.
Officers swooped on two businesses operating out of the same building at 76 Linden Street, Leicester on 7 July, sealing all exits before interviewing the workers and checking identity documents.
At Sanjri Mouldings on the ground floor seven workers were questioned and three were arrested after they were found without a UK Visa.
At Rewalk Clothing on the first floor 22 workers were questioned and nine were arrested for having no right to work in the UK. Some of the workers had entered the UK illegally while others had overstayed their UK Visa.
All of the illegal workers were Indian nationals - eleven men and one woman.
Two illegal workers were detained while the other ten were placed on UK immigration bail, and they will have to report regularly to a UK Border Agency office while steps are taken to remove them from the country as soon as possible.
Both businesses were issued with on-the-spot penalty notices for employing illegal workers and may now face a fine of up to £10,000 per person.
