The UK Home Office made an announcement regarding impending changes to the UK marriage visa.

As of the end of November 2008, the Government will require the age at which a person can apply for a UK marriage visa to be 21 years or more.  Currently, the age at which someone can apply for a UK marriage visa needs to be at least 18 years.

The Home Office say the changes are an attempt to deter those non-UK citizens trying to take advantage of the UK visa system and forced marriages.

The Immigration Minister Phil Woolas said the changes will work towards further protecting youths and the British borders.

"It is important that we protect vulnerable young people and this measure will help avoid exploitation," Mr Woolas said in a statement.
