Youth mobility scheme opens up for Taiwanese

Taiwanese residents who received sponsorship can now advance to applying for a Tier 5 (Youth mobility scheme) visa.

Taiwanese will soon be benefiting from the UK youth mobility scheme.

In November 2011 it was announced that Taiwan would be joining Japan, Monaco, Australia and New Zealand in the UK's youth mobility scheme which is part of Tier 5 of the points-based scheme which permits immigration to the UK.

Taiwan's participation means that eligible Taiwanese between the ages of 18 and 30 will be able to obtain a UK visa which will allow them to live and work in the UK for up to two years. Any Taiwanese citizen who has already received their certificate of sponsorship from the Taiwanese National Youth Commission can now proceed to booking appointments at the visa application centre in Taipei.

The first registration period has now closed but there are plans to initiate a second period of registration if the 1,000 places available are not allocated.

While there are certain restrictions that prevent Taiwanese applying to the National Youth Commission, the lack in numbers are likely a result of certain restrictions on the youth mobility scheme in the UK which limits applicants to certain criteria.
