International Agreement Category

The Tier 5 International Agreement category is for people who are under a work contract to come to the UK to provide services covered under international law.

Examples of people who would fall under this category include:

• Employees of overseas governments, and/or international organisations.
• Staff in diplomatic households.
• People working under the General Agreement on Trade in Services, GATS.

The amount of time that visa holders under this category can stay in the UK varies depending on the position and the international agreement.

• Workers under the GATS or a similar international agreement can stay in the UK for a maximum of 24 months.
• Employees of overseas governments and household staff of diplomatic houses can stay for a maximum of 24 months, which can then be extended every 12 months, up to a maximum of 72 months.
