New Zealand immigration has announced that places for Chinese applicants under the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa program will open on 20 January.

New Zealand working holiday

Some 200 places will open to Chinese nationals in January as part of the New Zealand Working Holiday Scheme.

One thousand places are available annually to young citizens of China for a 12-month stay in the country under the New Zealand Working Holiday agreement.

Places under the quota are released in stages to help manage demand.

Two hundred places will become available from 10am New Zealand time on 10 January 2011.

As interest in the working holiday scheme is expected to be much greater than the number of places available the New Zealand immigration department has advised that the quota will be filled within a very short time of it opening.

The New Zealand Working Holiday Visa Scheme gives young people aged between 18 and 30 the opportunity to travel to New Zealand and undertake employment during their stay.

This scheme allows visa holders casual working rights in order to supplement their travels, and as such any work undertaken must be incidental and to the conditions stipulated on the visa.
