Changes to New Zealand Skilled Migrant Category

Visa Bureau is not affiliated with the Australian Government but is an independent UK company. Australian visas are available from the Australian Government at a lower cost or for free when you apply directly. Our comprehensive visa and immigration services include immigration advice from registered migration agents, a 100% success rate, document checking and expedited visa processing.

Several changes to New Zealand's Skilled Migrant Category come into effect from today.

The most significant change applies to applicants claiming points for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage, who before today would only qualify for points if that experience has been gained in a comparable labour market.

Now applicants whose experience has been gained in a non-comparable market can also claim points for work experience on their Expressions of Interest. The change will see qualification under the points system even more accessible to workers in countries outside the United States and Europe.

Another change sees all applicants with New Zealand qualifications now requested to provide evidence of the NZQA level of their qualification by submitting a ‘Qualification Overview’ report with their qualification.

Additionally, no places are available under the Family Quota Category for 2006. No registrations will be taken under this category between 1 July 2006 and 30 June 2007.
