Demand for skilled workers and six-figure jobs in NZ on the rise
According to experts, higher paid jobs are becoming more available for skilled workers in New Zealand, making migration all the more attractive for the thousands of foreign nationals looking to move to New Zealand every month.
TradeMe officials have told Stuff.co.nz the number of six-figure jobs increased by 20 per cent over the past five weeks, and demand for overseas workers is following the same trend. It is hoped the winning combination will encourage more people to emigrate to New Zealand and ease the skill shortage.
More than 1300 vacancies have been on offer since the "$100-000 plus" section was added to the TradeMe website five weeks ago. Retailer buyers, tax managers, research professors, mine engineers, and mechanical fitters are all in demand on the popular job-searching website, and are all offering healthy pay packets.
TradeMe jobs CEO Jimmy McGee said only 5 per cent of New Zealanders are earning in this top-end bracket, but expects more than 40,000 people will hit the website to apply for these higher earning jobs.
Recruitment experts say despite fears that the global credit crunch may cause unemployment to rise in New Zealand, demand for highly skilled workers in all industries remains strong, except for banking.
Julie Cressey, a Madison Recruitment national manager, says there are many jobs available in telecommunication, insurance broking, human resources recruitment and senior management roles in the consumer goods sector offering six-figure salaries.
Senior brokers, risk advisers, underwriters, experienced human resource workers and information technology workers - especially business analysts, project managers, software developers and enterprise architects – are also high in demand and offering highly competitive salaries.
"There definitely has been wage pressure on roles that are in shortage and I think organisations are beginning to ascertain that they need to pay more," Ms Cressey told the news provider.
