The Canadian Government has announced the investment plan for $20.7 million, the first year in funding as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, to improve housing conditions for First Nation communities across Saskatchewan.

The Canadian Economic Action plan will create construction jobs in Canada and provide better housing.
The Canadian Economic Action Plan is to stimulate Canadian construction jobs, improve housing conditions for communities, and stimulate the local economy.
Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Canadian Government has committed $400 million over two years to help First Nation communities build needed new housing, repair and remediate existing non-profit housing for their members, and complement housing programs, and some $60 million will be made available to First Nations in Saskatchewan. The funding will improve local economies and create more work in Canada, particularly in the construction and trade industries.
The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, made the announcement along with members of the Whitecap Dakota community.
"Our Government's Economic Action Plan is creating jobs, stimulating the local economy and improving housing conditions for First Nation communities in Saskatchewan," said Minister Yelich.
Of the $400 million committed to the Canadian Economic Action plan, $250 million will be delivered over two years for the creation of new on-reserve housing ($125 million) and the repair and renovation of existing federally-assisted on-reserve social housing ($125 million).
The remaining $150 million will be issued for lot servicing, renovations, new construction of high-density multi-unit dwellings, and renovations to support the conversion of band-owned housing to private ownership.
