New guide for Canadian Citizenship part of Canadian visa and immigration reform

Ottawa will issue this week a new guide to citizenship, which is expected to be used by 250,000 immigrants moving from Canadian visas to citizenship.

The guide is part of a direction of reform for the Canadian department of immigration, which just recently included imposing Canadian visas for Mexican and Czech Republic tourists.

Recently, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced plans to reduce the refugee visa by 3,000 slots, but the ministry will retain its 240,000 to 265,000 yearly Canadian permanent resident visas it would issue in 2010.

A panel of experts helped craft the new guide, including former Canadian Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, historian Jack Granatstein, retired general John de Chastelain and historian Margaret MacMillan.
