Australian ETA Visa

You have been referred to this page by our partners, Virgin Atlantic.

Travelling on holiday to Australia?

If so, you'll be needing an Australian travel visa, and if you're from one of the eligible countries, then the quickest option will be an ETA visa.  An ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) visa is the easiest method for getting a visa to travel to Australia, and you can apply online for one with the Australian Visa Bureau.

What is an ETA Visa?

The ETA is the most advanced and streamlined travel authorisation system in the world, replacing the need for physical application forms, visa labels or stamps. The Australian ETA is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia for short-term tourist visits or business entry travellers from ETA eligible countries (which are detailed below), and is usually processed instantly.

The ETA Visa is usually processed within a matter of seconds, but in a small amount of cases it takes up between 2-3 days. To immediately start the process, complete the Australian Online ETA Visa Application.

What can I do on my ETA Visa?

The ETA Visa allows a person to stay in Australia for up to 3 months on each arrival within 12 months from the date of the grant. It differs from traditional visas in that there are no application forms to fill in and no visa label or stamp in the passport; no fuss, no bother, just very easy.

The ETA is available to passport holders from Australian Government specified countries and regions. To apply for an ETA, you must be outside Australia and hold a passport issued by an ETA-eligible country or region.

What nationalities are eligible for an ETA Visa?

ETA applicants MUST hold a passport from one of the ETA Eligible Countries. The list of countries is as follows:

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR), Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan*, United Kingdom (British Citizen), United Kingdom (Overseas)**, United States of America, Vatican City.

* Holders of Taiwan passports can only be processed for an ETA if resident in and applying in Taiwan.
** Holders of UK passports which indicate their nationality to be British National (Overseas) can only be processed for an ETA if resident in and applying in Hong Kong.

Why use the Australian Visa Bureau?

A small proportion of ETA visa applications will be ‘referred’ to the Australian High Commission.

In most cases, there is an additional 3 working day period of wait for referred ETA applications. If your ETA visa application is referred, you may or may not be required to provide additional personal details to the Department of Immigration.

If the Australian High Commission requires further details from you, Visa Bureau will notify you. If we notify you of a referral requiring additional information, you will likely be required to complete Form 48R – a copy of which we will send to you. You will be required to fax the completed form directly to the High Commission along with a copy of your passport. Visa Bureau will then notify you whether or not your ETA has been granted.
