Australian IT skills shortage pushes salaries up

British IT professionals interested in Australian immigration can now look forward to international market salaries as Australian IT managers have been ranked in the top ten highest paid in the world.

The latest research by Mercer – IT Pay around the World during 2006 – surveyed 6,545 IT companies in 35 countries. "Australia, which is facing a growing skills shortage of IT professionals, has seen IT salaries increasing steadily in recent years, and it is now comparable with other major western countries," said Mr Ken Gilbert, head of human capital at Mercer.

A recent Greythorn Group survey showed that Australian IT salaries leapt 11.54 per cent in the past 12 months putting them on a par and in many cases higher than in other developed nations.

Combined with the lower cost of living and lifestyle benefits, senior IT professionals such as .Net developers, business analysts, database administrators and project managers, are earning salaries competitive with centres such as the US, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Australia needs more doctors: Anyone applying for an Australia skilled visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
