Many organisations in Australia, including investment bank JPMorgan, are continuing to be challenged by the country's skills shortage. There are significant opportunities for experienced banking and IT people who have an Australian visa.

JPMorgan technology site manager Martin Laing said in Australian IT magazine: "The Australian market is relatively small when compared to the US and London markets, so it is more challenging in terms of finding staff and finding them at the right level of performance. Given that JPMorgan in the Australian market is small, we are going to compete with some big organisations.

"So we have to have a unique sell to attract some of these people, and part of that is around the career growth and development of people's skills and the opportunities that we can offer them, be it in location or an overseas posting."

According to Laing, JPMorgan is implementing a succession planning programme for all senior IT positions as well as critical positions throughout the organisation.

Australia needs skilled IT people and investment banking workers: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
