The Australian High Commission is holding a skilled migration expo in late September. Details of the expo will be advertised at www.australia.org.uk in early September. There will also be media advertisements and a dedicated website address.
Australian employers will be here looking for health professionals, engineers, skilled tradespersons, and other skilled professionals.
You will be able to register interest in attending this expo online when we commence formal advertisement in early September. The registration process will require you to already have worked through a self-assessment process to ascertain your chances of meeting our skilled migration criteria. You will be asked to nominate a skilled occupation (this must be an occupation found on our Skilled Occupations List or SOL with a unique code number); you will be asked to tell us what points you believe you will score against the various aspects of our Points Test and you will be asked among other things to flag the type of visa for which you would wish to apply and if possible, your preferred area of residence.
We suggest strongly that you do your groundwork now so that you can provide us with all this information as soon as we open the registration books. We recommend that you start by looking at the following link which will take you through the self-assessment process and take you key documents www.immi.gov.au/migration/skilled/index.htm .
Please note that attendance at the expo will be by invitation only and your registration information will be screened to identify members of our target groups who appear to meet our eligibility requirements and who would be of most interest to employers.
Invitations will be sent by email after the screening processing is completed. If you wish to prepare for the possibility of an invitation, you may wish to keep in mind issues of your availability and also what preparations you may be able to make in advance. Invitations will specify a specific date and time for meetings in London at the end of September. Invitees will be asked to bring CVs with evidence of their qualifications, training and employment history. Meetings with interested employers will be more constructive if you have informative personal documentation on your skills and qualifications to hand.
Please continue to check the www.australia.org.uk web site for up to date information.
