Australian government told to act on skills shortage

The Australian government has been encouraged to fix the skills crisis which is hitting the country. An alliance of union, employers and skills organisations is claiming that there could be a shortfall of hundreds of thousands of workers by 2016 if more is not done to fill jobs. Experts have said that Australian immigration will have to play a crucial role in filling the shortages.

Heather Ridout, from the Australian Industry Group, said: "There's huge shortages of tradesmen, in prospect 240,000 will be needed unless we increase our current supply of tradesmen over the next five or so years. There's huge shortages of para-professionals and professionals: engineers, scientists, mathematicians, environmental specialists." She has also said that 46 per cent of the Australian work force does not have the core skills needed to meet the demands of the modern economy. People looking to take advantage of the need for skilled workers can apply for an Australian visa with an online Australian visa application.

Australia needs skilled workers: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
