DIAC will hold Australian skilled migration information sessions in London in February 2012.

The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will host two information sessions in London on February 25 and 26 2012, highlighting the 'Skills Australia Needs'.

The event will allow pre-screened targeted UK citizens who have certain skill sets to become aware of Australia visa sponsorship, employment and lifestyle options.

"Skills Australia Needs events help address current skill shortages in areas of occupational demand in Australia, particularly health care, engineering and select trade occupations," an Australian immigration spokesperson said in a DIAC statement released on November 11.

"Interested skilled workers can apply to attend the events, however, only those with recognised qualifications and experience in one of the occupations targeted will be selected."

The events will also seek to further the Australian Government's priority of targeting skilled migration to regions where specific skills are required in the labour market, manifest in the State-specific and Regional Migration Program (SSRM).

"The department has staged these events for a number of years in various countries to provide information to workers about skilled visa options for Australia, with a focus on matching skilled workers with Australian state and territory governments and employers in targeted occupational areas," the spokesperson said.

Participants in the Skills Australia Needs events are not expected to pay a fee but attendance is conditional on interested prospective migrants being less than 50 years old and in possession of strong English language skills.

Australian employers can apply directly to DIAC for more information or to register to attend the events.
