Four job vacancies for every one accountant with an Australian visa

The latest research by Australia's Institute of Chartered Accountants indicates that there are four job vacancies for every one accountant in the country. The opportunities for British accountants interested in Australian immigration will only increase as a survey by the institute also showed that 43 per cent of young Australian accountants intend to move overseas in the next two years.

Lisette Cochineas, the New South Wales general manager for the institute, told the Age newspaper that meeting the shortage of accountants in Australia is a "great challenge".

"With the advent of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), there is so much more flexibility for accountants to travel and work in different countries. It has enabled accountants to more easily transfer skills from one country to another. We do attract a lot of people from the UK and Asia to work in Australia," she noted.

Australia needs skilled chartered accountants: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
