A panel has been formed to discuss possible improvements to the temporary Australian visa (subclass 457). According to the Government, an advice panel has been formed to make suggestions on the scheme.

Included in the group will be representatives from the New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia governments, in addition to representatives from the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Australian Industry Group, Business Council of Australia, Australian Council of Trade Unions and Minerals Council of Australia.

The panel will address issues like skilled migration policy changes and the effect any changes will have on the Australian workforce and businesses. It will also look at how the temporary Australia visa system can fit into employer and state-sponsored programmes.

A meeting from the Government has concluded Australian immigration is key to meeting skills shortages across the country, with both temporary and permanent Australian visas being crucial to the country's growth.

Australia needs skilled workers: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
