Australia oil and gas industry conference to focus on skills shortage
A major oil and gas industry conference is being held in Perth and among the topics discussed will be how to address the skills shortage in the sector. The annual Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPE) meeting will be looking at ways to reduce the impact of greenhouse gas emissions as well as how to attract new people into the industry. One solution to the sector's skills shortage which could be discussed at the meeting is to bring workers in through Australian immigration in order to fill the shortage.
Belinda Robinson, APPEA chief executive, said: "Indigenous people, older people who have left the industry, we'll be looking at how we can entice them back, particularly to play mentor roles for the younger people." She added that the industry is also underrepresented by woman and that the APPEA will be looking at "all possible ways" to increase the "size of the pool", meaning Australian immigration could emerge as a solution. APPEA represents the oil and gas exploration and production industry in Australia.
Australia needs skilled oil and gas industry workers: Anyone applying for an Australian visa should begin by completing the Australian Visa Bureau's online Australian visa application to see if they meet the Australian visa requirements.
