United States sets dates for US Visa lottery

Registration for the US State Department's DV 2012-Diversity Visa Lottery program opens next month, allowing people from counties with low rates of immigration to the US the opportunity to obtain a visa.

Interested people can register to be included in the US Visa lottery when the program opens on October 5. The registration period will end on November 3.  

The US Diversity Visa Lottery program is now completely an electronic registration system,  and the State Department has announced that paper entries would not be accepted. US Visa applications for the DV-2012 lottery have to be submitted electronically between noon on Tuesday October 5 and noon on Wednesday November 3.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered annually by the State Department and to give up to 55,000 visas to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the US.

Lottery applicants that are selected in the lottery will be notified online, and will receive instructions on how to apply for immigrant visas for themselves and their eligible family members. Confirmation of visa interview appointments will also be made online.
