Russell Brand detained by US immigration officials

US immigration officials detained British comedian Russell Brand in the early hours of Tuesday morning after he landed in New York before a promotion appearance.

Brand flew from London to New York after the British premiere of his latest movie Despicable Me ahead of a planned appearance on Howard Stern's radio show on Tuesday morning.

After he landed he was held by US immigration officials and questioned before later being released and allowed to enter the country.

While in detention Brand used Twitter to update fans about his dilemma saying "Held in US immigration. Little do they know I'm singing God Save The Queen in my head."

US Immigration officials reportedly detained the star because of his arrest and charge of battery last month in Los Angeles following an alleged clash with a photographer at the airport.

Brand is to appear at a hearing in LA next month over the incident but is likely to receive a reprimand.
